Yellville-Summit girls win 2nd straight state track championship, boys second

The Yellville-Summit High School girls’ track team won their second straight track championship Tuesday, capturing the Class 2A State Track Meet at Quitman. The Lady Panthers finished with 103.5 points, well ahead of second place Bigelow who had 82 points. Melbourne was third with 75 points, Salem finished eighth with 34 points and Flippin was 18th.

Individually for the Lady Panthers, Kambree Gibson finished second in the 100 meter dash, triple jump and 300 meter hurdles, third in the 200 meter dash and the 100 meter hurdles and sixth in the long jump; KJ Moore finished second in the high jump, third in the 400 meter run and ninth in the pole vault; Sierra Burrow was third in the long jump and seventh in the triple jump; Kaylee Martin was fifth in the 800 meter run and seventh in the 400 meter run; Fay Chism finished tied for fifth in the pole vault and was sixth in the 100 and 300 meter hurdles; and Elle Lee was ninth in the shot put. In team events, Yellville-Summit won the 4×400 meter relay, finished second in the 4×800 meter relay, third in the 4×100 meter relay and sixth in the 4×200 meter relay.

For Melbourne, Kenley McCarn won the 100 and 300 meter hurdles and the pole vault, was second in the long jump and third in the triple jump and discus; Kaitlyn McCarn was third in the 1600 meter and 3200 meter runs, fourth in the high jump and ninth in the long jump and Ashtyn Kimble finished sixth in the 800 meter run. In team events, the Lady Bearkatz finished sixth in the 4×400 meter relay and eighth in the 4×800 meter relay.

For Salem, Marleigh Sellars finished second in the 400 meter run, Macey Cooper finished sixth in the 3200 meter run, Chelsea Hamilton was eighth in the 800 meter run. In team events, the Lady Greyhounds won the 4×100 meter relay, were second in the 4×200 meter relay and finished fifth in the 4×800 meter relay.

Madi Hopson led Flippin with a fourth place finish in the 800 meter run and Hannah Penn was ninth in the discus. In team events, the Lady Bobcats finished seventh in the 4×800 meter relay.



On the boys’ side, Yellville-Summit finished second at the state meet with 60 points. Quitman won with 107 points. Melbourne finished fourth and Salem was fifth.

Individually for the Panthers, Lucas McVay won the high jump and finished third in the 800 meter run and sixth in the 1600 meter run, Tyler Barret won the shot put and finished second in the discus, Caiden Curtis finished second in the pole vault and ninth in the triple jump and Rafe Heap was fifth in the 800 meter run
In team events, the Panthers finished second in the 4×800 meter relay and sixth in the 4×400 meter relay.

For Melbourne, Nathan Woodall won the 110 meter hurdles and was second in the 300 meter hurdles; Carter Bray was fourth in the pole vault, seventh in the triple jump and ninth in the long jump; Shawn Wortham was seventh in the 1600 meter run and ninth in the 3200 meter run; Matthew Smith finished eighth in the 800 meter run; Buck Campbell was eighth in the shot put and Cash Fowler was ninth in the pole vault. In team events for the Bearkatz, they finished third in the 4×800 meter relay and seventh in the 4×200 meter relay.

For Salem, Elijah Romine was second in the 110 meter hurdles and seventh in the 300 meter hurdles; Matthew Holloway was third in the long jump, tied for third in the high jump and was eighth in the 300 meter hurdles; Tyler Siddons was fourth in the shot put and Ignacio Fernandez was fourth in the 400 meter run. In team events, the Greyhounds finished eighth in the 4×200 meter relay and the 4×400 meter relay.

Flippin’s Matias Van Iseghem was eighth in the 400 meter run and Aiden Browne finished tenth in the 300 meter hurdles.
