On July 3, a woman left her car parked on the side of the road until she could get a problem with one of her tires fixed and on July 4 returned only to find the vehicle had been stolen.
A 30-year-old Mountain Home man, Jay Lewis Dockweiler, appeared in Baxter County Circuit Court recently, pled guilty to charges stemming from the car theft and was sentenced to three years in prison.
The victim said she had a flat tire on the State Highway 5 South ramp about 11:30 a.m., July 3. She reported making several attempts to get the tire problem fixed, but was unsuccessful and left the vehicle sitting on the side of the road.
When she came back the next day, the maroon 1999 Toyota Avalon was gone and she filed a theft report.
On July 6, an Arkansas State Trooper pulled a vehicle over on U.S. Highway 62/412 West for not having a license plate displayed.
The driver of the maroon Toyota was identified as Dockweiler. The trooper noted Dockweiler appeared nervous. He also saw that the vehicle’s ignition had been removed from the socket and was hanging down between Dockweilers’ legs.
Dockweiler was arrested after it was found the vehicle had been reported stolen. He also had a number of outstanding warrants.
Before he was interviewed, Dockweiler was advised of his Miranda Rights and is reported to have said he wanted a lawyer present before any questions were asked.
While no questions were asked, Dockweiler did make a “spontaneous utterance” in which he is reported to have said, “I did this solely by myself without the help of anyone, so whatever is wrong is on me.”
