It’s been a month since measurable rainfall was last recorded at KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot, the official reporting station for the National Weather Service in Mountain Home, and it still may be a while before anymore is expected. With the dry conditions in the Twin Lakes Area and surrounding regions, the risk of wildfires becomes a greater concern.

Currently, a burn ban is in effect for the city of Salesville, but none of the area’s county judges have issued a ban for their unincorporated areas. Meteorologist Colby Pope with the National Weather Service office in North Little Rock says some counties in Arkansas have burn bans in effect, and he expects more to come.

The U.S. Drought Monitor has most of north central Arkansas under moderate drought conditions, but eastern Searcy County and Stone County are under a severe drought. Pope says the dry conditions may be continuing for a while.
