A Stone County woman has been arrested after pushing her mom during a dispute over her alleged drinking and drug use.

According to the probable cause affidavit, officers were dispatched to a residence along Firestone Lane in St. Joe for a report of 38-year-old Megan Early arguing with and pushing a family member. Upon arrival, officers asked the victim if she wanted to press charges where she then stated all she wanted was for Early to leave the property and not return.

Before law enforcement arrived, Early allegedly locked herself in an upstairs bedroom. Officers knocked on the door and asked her to come out, but she allegedly responded with some noises and a few words they couldn’t understand. Authorities asked the victim if Early had been drinking, and the victim stated she had been, along with a bottle of cough syrup.

Officers stated they could not break down the door to trespass Early because she was allegedly intoxicated with nowhere to go, unless the victim wanted to press charges. The victim then changed her mind and handed the officer a crowbar, which was used to gain access to the bedroom.

Once downstairs, officers attempted to place Early in handcuffs where she then became resistant and allegedly elbowed a deputy and tried moving the couch to get to her mother.
Officers then had to take Early to the ground to gain control and place her in the handcuffs. They then managed to place one cuff on Early’s left hand but she would not give them her right hand. As the officer was trying to physically move her arm out from under her, Early bit the officer on the knuckle and fore finger.

Early was then warned if she did not give the officer her right hand, she would be tased for non-compliance.

Early was tased twice before she was finally able to be placed in the patrol car.

Early is being held in the Marion County Detention Center on a felony count of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, and misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest and domestic battery in the third degree.

Bond is set at $2,500, Early has been ordered to have no contact with the victim and ordered to not consume intoxicating beverages.
