Izard County gets more honors following 8-man state championship

It’s been four days since Izard County wrapped up its first year of eight-man football with a state championship. Since then, the Cougars have received several more honors from the season.

Malachi Cruz was named the most valuable player of the Classes 2A/1A state title game from Izard County’s win over Rector, and Jameson Chapman was the Brandon Burlsworth Player of the Game. Cruz was joined on the All-State team by Wyatt Buchanan and Tyler Hill, and Dakoda Townsley received honorable mention. Cruz, Buchanan, Hill and Townsley were joined on the All-Conference squad by Noah Stevenson, Garrett Roberts and Gaven Stephens. Xander McCandlis and Jesse Warden received All-Conference honorable mention.

In addition, Izard County head coach Jared Johnson was selected the 2A/1A-North Conference Coach of the Year.
