The body of a female swept away from a low-water crossing in southern Missouri has been identified. According to KYTV/KSPR, Missouri State Highway Patrol Sergeant Mike McClure says 49-year-old Annette Mesicek of Mount Vernon, Missouri, was pronounced dead by the Christian County coroner after her body was found early Saturday evening, around 4 miles downstream from where her vehicle was swept away.

KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot News recently spoke with Mountain Home resident Teresa Chairs after she and her daughters came upon a vehicle Thursday night at the Finley Creek crossing, south of Fordland on Missouri Route Z. When the vehicle was swept away, they attempted to rescue its occupants. Two of the occupants were able to make it to shore, but Mesicek was stranded on the vehicle.

Crews searched for Mesicek for several hours until her body was found around 5:30 Saturday evening. Webster County Sheriff Roye Cole says he and a few volunteers pulled her remains out of the water and waited for the coroner. Mesicek’s family has been notified.
