Two area residents were injured in separate accidents Thursday afternoon in Howell County.

The first accident resulted in minor injuries to 18-year-old Victoria Sholes of West Plains following an alleged hit-and-run. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Sholes was traveling on Missouri Route JJ and was nearly six miles south of West Plains when a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction struck her pickup truck’s side-view mirror and fled the scene. Sholes was transported by ambulance to Ozarks Healthcare in West Plains, and her truck had minor damage in the 1:05 p.m. accident.

The second accident also resulted in minor injuries to 41-year-old Kenneth Manes of West Plains. The highway patrol states Manes was a passenger in a vehicle driven by 34-year-old John Smith of West Plains on County Road 6300. They were nearly two miles west of West Plains when Smith’s vehicle crested on a hill and struck nearly head-on a minivan driven in the opposite direction by 64-year-old Mary Marcak of West Plains. Manes sought his own treatment at Ozarks Healthcare. Smith and Marcak were not injured. Manes and Smith were reportedly not wearing seatbelts. Both vehicles were totaled in the 2:15 p.m. accident.
