Unemployment numbers improve in north central Arkansas, rise again in southern Missouri

The newly released unemployment numbers from the Arkansas Division of Workforce Services and the Missouri Economic Research and Information Center for the month of March show the number of unemployed has gone down since February in northern Arkansas but most counties across southern Missouri saw their rate increase.

In Baxter County, the rate is at 2.9%, down from 3.3% in the previous month. Baxter County’s rate is tied for the 34th lowest out of Arkansas’ 75 counties. There are 474 unemployed Baxter County residents out of a work force of 16,026.

Marion County’s rate declined from 3.7% in February to 3.1% in March, ranking it as tied for 43rd lowest in the state. Marion County has 194 residents out of work from a work force of 6,046.

Fulton County’s unemployment rate went from 3% in February to 2.8% in March which means they are tied for the 29th lowest rate in the state. Fulton County has a labor force of 4,846 and 140 unemployed.

The unemployment rate in Izard County went down from 4.2% in February to 3.8% in March which is tied for number 63 in Arkansas. There are 169 Izard County residents unemployed out of a work force of 4,335.

In Stone County, the March rate was 3.4%, down from 4.1% in February. That ranks Stone County tied for 51st out of 75 counties. There are 4,412 in the labor force in Stone County with 153 unemployed.

Searcy County’s unemployment rate went down from 4.7% to 3.8% in March, ranking them tied for 63rd in Arkansas. There are 107 people unemployed in Searcy County out of a work force of 2,714.

Boone County’s rate decreased from 2.9% in February to 2.6% in March, putting them in a tie for the 19th lowest rate in the state. Boone County has a work force of 15,582 with 413 out of work.

Newton County is tied for the state’s 12th lowest unemployment rate at 2.5%, down from 3% last month. Newton County has a labor force of 3,150 with 81 of those unemployed.

Arkansas’s unemployed rate in March was 3%, down from 3.2% the previous month.

In southern Missouri, Ozark County’s rate stands at 4.7%, up from 4.5% in February. Ozark County has 161 unemployed out of a work force of 3,426.

Douglas County saw their rate go from 2.5% in February to 4.2% in March. In Douglas County, the labor force is 5,336 and there are 225 out of work.

Howell County had a increase, going from 2.9% to 3.4% in March. Howell County has work force of 16,104 with 544 unemployed.

Taney County’s rate decreased from 10.6% in February to 4.5% in March. There are 1,132 unemployed in Taney County out of a labor force of 24,904.

Missouri’s rate stayed the same in March at 2.7%.
