The Cotter School Board’s nearly two-hour June session started Thursday night with the selection of its officers. Allen Franks was named the president, Luke Walker was picked as the vice president, and the role of secretary went to Jimmy Morgan. All votes were unanimous.

Superintendent Jayme Jones later presented House Bill 1604 from the most recent legislative session in Little Rock. The bill states a transfer petition received by a school district “under this section shall be placed on the agenda of the next regular monthly meeting of the school district board of directors or a specially called meeting of the school district board of directors, whichever occurs first, unless otherwise provided by this section.” The board unanimously approved the monthly transfer of students on Jones’ recommendation.

Toward the end of the session, the board dealt with and approved several transfer petitions. Cotter will be accepting 12 transfers from Mountain Home, two from Flippin and another from Yellville-Summit. The board also approved 13 students transferring from Cotter to Mountain Home.

Two presentations were made to revise the district’s policies for sick leave of licensed employees and classified employees. The changes include abolishing the sick leave bank and returning the days to employees who have contributed. Both presentations were unanimously approved.

Among personnel matters, the board approved the recission of second grade teacher Katie Heroux’s contract effective at the end of the school year, which comes at the end of this month. They also agreed to select Maranda Zeltner as an alternative learning environment teacher for Amanda Gist Elementary School and hire Dayla Decker and Montana Richert as paraprofessionals.

Other items approved by the board include changes to the elementary and high school handbooks, a memorandum of understanding from Chenal Therapy, a digital learning plan and the purchase of school supplies for the upcoming school year.

The Cotter School Board’s next regular session has been moved to July 13.
