The Arkansas High School Coaches Association All-Star Week concluded Saturday night with its football game on the campus of the University of Central Arkansas in Conway, and Izard County was well-represented.

Wide receiver/defensive back Malachi Cruz and defensive back Tyler Hill were both starters on the gridiron for the East team, and Cougars’ head coach Jared Johnson served as an assistant coach in the game. Cruz had two receptions, including one for a touchdown, and he also forced a fumble on defense.

Izard County is coming off its inaugural season of eight-man football. The Cougars finished 2022 as the state champions.
