A response to an area emergency room for a domestic situation has led to the arrest of an Izard County man. Twenty-one-year-old Jesse May II of Pineville was booked Saturday night in the Izard County Detention Center on felony counts of aggravated assault on a family or household member and third-degree domestic battering and a misdemeanor count of third-degree endangering the welfare of a minor.

According to the probable cause affidavit, an Izard County deputy was dispatched to Izard Regional Hospital in Calico Rock, where the complainant claimed a male, identified as May, was armed with a firearm. When the deputy located May, he was reportedly holding in infant. May said he had left the firearm at his residence and followed the deputy’s instruction to give the child to the victim and leave the treatment room. The deputy stated he then observed swelling above the victim’s left eye and smelled an odor of intoxicants appearing to be associated with May. The deputy detained May and placed him in the patrol vehicle as the investigation continued.

May told the deputy he had been drinking prior to the incident and left his sleeping infant at home to go to a gas station. He stated he didn’t want to take the chance of driving while intoxicated with his baby in the vehicle.

May claims the victim returned to the residence before him and started cursing at him and getting in his face, and that’s when he headbutted her. He said he then “okayed” her to go to the hospital but didn’t want her to drive her vehicle since it wasn’t licensed or insured, and he would go with her to watch the baby while she went to the hospital. May also claimed the female struck him in the face. When asked about the gun, May stated he almost shot himself, but he left the gun at the residence. The deputy was unable to locate a firearm at the hospital.

The deputy then spoke to the victim, who stated her infant had hit her forehead on a wall. No injuries were visible on the child. The female then stated May had been drinking and became agitated as he worked on a vehicle. She claimed when she got home, May’s vehicle was not there. She walked in to find the residence in disarray with several holes in the wall, and she also discovered the infant was home alone sleeping.

The victim states May later returned yelling and slamming doors in an angry manner, and when she confronted him about leaving the child alone, he allegedly “lost it” and said he did that all the time. He then reportedly attempted to take the vaping device she was holding, causing her to tense up. May then allegedly pulled her hand bank and twisted it, causing it to be red and swollen.

The female claims May then prevented her from leaving the residence and eventually headbutted her face. He later allegedly pushed her against a wall while she was holding the infant, causing the child’s head to hit the wall. When the victim stated she needed to go to the hospital, he reportedly grabbed a gun from the bedroom and placed the barrel in his mouth. She claims she convinced May to remove the firearm from his mouth and take her to the hospital.

As they were leaving, the victim reportedly saw May reload the gun, and he later reached out of the vehicle and fired it, causing her ears to ring. The child was reportedly in the back seat when the shot was fired. The female stated May hid the firearm before driving to the hospital. Deputies on the scene later retrieved the firearm and located a spent casing.

On Monday, May was interviewed by an Izard County investigator, corroborated most of the female’s account and stated he knew the female was 25 weeks pregnant. He denied firing the gun.

May’s bond is set at $25,000.
