Thursday night, the Mountain Home Public Schools Board of Education met in regular session.

During the reports, Chris Knight, Director of Operations, told the Board the Arkansas Department of Education’s Facilities Division will be on site Friday morning at 9 to discuss the necessary requirements and timeline for the essential upgrades required at the high school.

Knight stated the Facilities Division met last week and made a decision on what the district needs to do at the high school. They will present a transition plan to the district with what will be required to be completed. If the repairs are not completed within the timeframe given by the state, the state will list the high school on the facilities distressed list at which point the state will come in and take necessary steps to repair the school.

In action items, the Board approved 12 students requesting to transfer into the district and three out of the district.

The Board approved Shannon Caraway, an Independent Behavioral Health Therapist to be listed as a vendor with the district.

Each year it is required by the Division of Elementary and Secondary Education to approve a Statement of Assurances for Federal Programs under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965, as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act. The documents signed by the superintendent attests the funds associated with School Level Improvement Plans under the Act are in compliance.

The Board approved two purchases in excess of $20,000. One purchase is for the vendor iCEV in the amount of $20,857.80 for supplemental resources Career and Technical Education teachers use and the second was for the band program to Cooper Music in the amount of $23,000.

The final item on the agenda was a request to approve a proposed stipend for the 7th Grade Spirit Squad in the amount of $1,500. In August, the Board voted to create the stipend for the Spirit Squad, but the proposal had to go through the Personnel Policy Committee (PPC). In committee, it was voted against approving the stipend at this time due to the current budget climate in addition to not having a framework in place to determine what activities are deserving of a stipend and tier placement.

The Board agreed a framework needed to be put into place and the stipends needed to be evaluated for correct placement, but felt this stipend should not be held up for the process. Therefore the Board rejected the proposal from the PPC and asked them to create a framework for stipends. The Board asked the PPC to present a framework at the January Board meeting so further discussions could be had before contracts are issued in March.

During announcements, Superintendent Allyson Dewey stated future Board meetings would be live streamed for those would wish to view the meetings at home. More information will be released at a later date.
