Several area schools have received school safety grants from the state of Missouri. Governor Mike Parson announced a total of 566 school districts, charter schools, and nonpublic schools have received grant funds from the second round of funding for the School Safety Grant Program.

The grant program aims to support school safety improvements, including physical security upgrades and associated technology such as door locks and monitoring systems, epinephrine auto-injectors, and automatic external defibrillators.

In our area, Lutie and Dora schools each received $50,000, West Plains got $200,000, Ava received $150,000, Hollister received $150,000, Willow Springs got $150,000, Branson received just over $235,000 and Forsyth got just over $147,000.

This was the second round of school safety grant awarded this year. In the spring, Gainesville and Bakersfield each received $100,000, Thornfield got nearly $45,000, Thayer received $150,000, Mountain View-Birch Tree received just under $200,000, Richards got $100,000, Taneyville received $50,000 and Bradleyville got just over $42,000.

Governor Parson says “Improving the safety and security of our schools is an issue we can all support, and these grants help ensure our schools remain safe environments for Missouri children to learn.”
