Two inmates at the Arkansas Department of Corrections North Central Unit at Calico Rock have picked up charges after throwing bodily fluids and waste on a guard. The two, 41-year-old Joseph Grabanski and 33-year-old Jerry Smith, have a lengthy list of other major infractions since being incarcerated.
According to the probable cause affidavit, the guard was collecting food trays in the restrictive housing unit. The officer observed the two holding cups when he got to their cell and ordered them to put the cups on their trays. They complied, but when the officer opened the door, Grabanski and Smith grabbed the cups and threw the contents on the guard.
The guard was struck by the contents which included urine, feces and vomit. He was treated by medical staff in the infirmary.
During questioning, both inmates admitted to the crime.
Grabanski and Smith each are facing a felony charge of aggravated assault on a corrections officer.
Grabanski was convicted of sexual assault in Saline County. He has 64 major guilty disciplinary violations in prison.
Smith, who has 70 major guilty disciplinary violations since being locked up, is serving sentences for criminal attempt to commit murder, escape and battery, all from Saline County.
