Saturday basketball results include MHHS girls finishing 3rd at Valley Springs tourney

The Mountain Home High School girls’ basketball team breezed its way to a third place finish in the Jake Gray Invitational Saturday at Valley Springs. The Lady Bombers pounded Clinton by a final of 61-36.
While Mountain Home never trailed, the game was kept close early on. The Lady Bombers started pulling away as they went up 13 to end the first half. Mountain Home dominated the third quarter as they held the Lady Yellowjackets in the third quarter. The mercy rule was put in effect the moment the final period started, and the mercy rule went in effect the moment the final period started.
Laykin Moore led the Lady Bombers with 17 points, and Jayla Yonkers added 15. No one was in double figures for Clinton.
The Lady Yellowjackets fall to 1-2 on the season. Mountain Home improves to 2-1, and they’ll join the Bomber boys by eeting Beebe for their home opener on Tuesday.
Also on the girls’ bracket, Melbourne finished sixth was a 54-47 loss to Mayflower, and Mountain View won the seventh place game 55-45 over Valley Springs.
On the boys’ side, Mountain View routed LISA Academy North 69-39, Bergman was edged out by Huntsville 51-50, and Valley Springs lost to Farmington 88-62.

The Arvest Bank Tournament got underway Saturday in Flippin.
On the boys’ side, Mountain Home Christian Academy fell to Flippin 84-16, Cotter lost to Jasper 61-45, Norfork was toppled by Cave City 68-30, Yellville-Summit fell to Alpena 61-57, Timbo lost to Kingston 73-43, and Lead Hill was defeated by Ozark Mountain 54-46. Coda Lemon led Lead Hill with 14 points, and Cedomir Petrovic added 11. For Ozark Mountain, Kooper Baker scored 19 points, and Tate Dixon chipped in 14.
In the girls’ games, Cotter beat Alpena 48-39, and Ozark Mountain was edged out by Jasper 52-50.

Bergman’s girls had a rough day as they took part in the Fight Like a Girl Classic at Marmaduke. The Lady Panthers fell to Nettleton 74-59.

Mountain Home’s seventh grade girls went 1-2 in a jamboree at Harrison. The Seventh Grade Lady Bombers began by doubling up Green Forest 20-10. Mountain Home later lost to Valley Springs and Harrison.
