A grant was recently awarded by Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield to assist schools around the state in addressing students’ mental well-being. Guy Berry College and Career Academy in Mountain Home was one of 75 in the Natural State to receive $2,500 for installation of calming rooms.
Guy Berry counselor Susan Gatewood says the room on the local campus will be set up for “emotional regulation.”

Blue Cross had announced its Take Good Care Calming Room initiative in July and began accepting applications from schools August 1. Gatewood says she is grateful to Blue Cross for taking the initiative.

Other area schools receiving the funding for calming rooms include the Ozark Mountain School District, Calico Rock High School, Salem School District, Leslie Intermediate School, Mountain View School District, Harrison High School and Deer-Mount Judea School District.
