Norfork girls among area teams winning tournament championships on Saturday

The North Arkansas College Invitational Tournament ended Saturday with its championship games at the Pioneer Pavilion in Harrison. Norfork’s girls successfully defended their title from last season as they defeated Mountain View 53-45. Marshall won the boys’ championship as they also topped Mountain View 87-66.

The Izard County girls, who entered the NEA Tournament as the sixth-seeded team in Division 2, ended up winning the crown at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro. The Lady Cougars edged out top-seeded Riverside 60-57. Quinn Johnson led Izard County with 20 points, Olivia Spray scored 13, and Makensie Yancey added 12. The Lady Cougars improve to 11-5 on the season.

Melbourne’s girls finished the Goldfish Classic in third place at Lonoke. The Lady Bearkatz routed DeWitt by a final of 77-22.

Two area girls’ teams squared off on the final day of the Lendel Thomas Classic at Harrison. Marshall fell to the host Lady Goblins 70-50.
