High school basketball makes up much of the local Friday schedule, and for Mountain Home, this marks the beginning of the portion of the year that counts toward postseason implications. The Bombers and Lady Bombers will start 5A-West conference action by welcoming Siloam Springs to the Twin Lakes Area.
Mountain Home’s girls moved into the Arkansas Sports Media rankings this week as they are in a three-way tie for fifth in Class 5A. The Lady Bombers are currently 11-5 on the season after falling to Farmington last week in the championship game of the Ultimate Auto Group Basketball Tournament. Siloam Springs has a record of 8-7. The Lady Panthers finished fifth in in the Gravette Christmas Classic last Friday with a win over Jay, Okla.
The Mountain Home boys stand at 12-4 on the year. The Bombers also lost to Farmington in their tournament title game a week ago. Siloam Springs has a mark of 6-8. The Panthers beat Dover last week to finish third in the Gravette Christmas Classic.
The junior varsity games have been canceled, but the varsity contests will resume as scheduled at Bomber Gymnasium. The girls’ game tips off at 6 followed by the boys’ contest. Both games will be broadcast on Classic Hits 101.7 and streaming live at ktlo.com.
Also in the 5A-West, Harrison hosts Alma, Greenbrier travels to Van Buren, and Russellville entertains Greenwood.
Elsewhere, Cotter is home against Greenland, Norfork heads to Pleasant Plains to meet Midland, Flippin travels to Green Forest, Yellville-Summit makes the trip to Centerton to face Life Way Christian, Viola heads to Shirley, Calico Rock entertains Rural Special, Gainesville’s boys are home against Dora, the Gainesville girls travel to Ava, Salem makes the trip to Mountain View, Izard County hosts Quitman, Mammoth Spring heads to Armorel, Melbourne entertains Hoxie, Marshall travels to Newark to take on Cedar Ridge, Bergman will have two girls’ teams at home against Heber Springs, Bergman’s boys make the trip to Osceola, Valley Springs heads to West Fork, and Ozark Mountain travels to Eureka Springs. The games between Mountain Home Christian Academy and Bakersfield have been canceled.
