Unemployment numbers jump in northern Arkansas in November, decline in southern Missouri

The latest unemployment numbers from the Arkansas Division of Workforce Services and the Missouri Economic Research and Information Center show November’s unemployment rates north central Arkansas increased while southern Missouri counties saw a decline when compared October.

In Baxter County, the rate rose from 3.1% in October to 3.5% in November. Baxter County’s rate is tied for the 39th lowest out of Arkansas’ 75 counties. There are 596 unemployed Baxter County residents out of a work force of 17,021.

Marion County’s rate increased from 3.5% in October to 4% in November, ranking it as tied for the 58th lowest in the state. Marion County has 242 residents out of work from a work force of 6,026.

Fulton County’s unemployment rate went up from 3.1% in October to 3.7% in November, which means they are tied for the 45th lowest rate in the state. Fulton County has a labor force of 4,518 and 167 are unemployed.

The unemployment rate in Izard County rose from 3.8% in October to 4.7% in November, which is ranked as number 67 out of 75 counties in Arkansas. There are 217 Izard County residents unemployed out of a work force of 4,612.

In Stone County, the rate decreased from 3.8% in October to 4.1% in November. That ranks Stone County 59th in the state. There are 4,342 in the labor force in Stone County with 177 unemployed.

Searcy County’s unemployment rate stayed the same in November at 3.9%, ranking them tied for 54th in Arkansas. There are 112 people unemployed in Searcy County out of a work force of 2,857.

Boone County saw its rate rise from 2.5% in October to 2.9% in November, putting them in a tie for the 12th lowest rate in the state. Boone County has a work force of 15,865 with 463 out of work.

Newton County is tied for the state’s 32nd lowest unemployment rate at 3.4%, up from 2.8% the previous month. Newton County has a labor force of 3,180 with 108 of those unemployed.

Arkansas’s unemployed rate in November was 3.3%, up from 3.1% the previous month.

In southern Missouri, Ozark County’s rate stands at 4.6%, down from 5.2% in October. Ozark County has 163 unemployed out of a work force of 3,537.

Douglas County saw its rate decline from 3.6% in October to 3% in November. In Douglas County, the labor force is 5,121, and there are 154 out of work.

Howell County had a decrease, going from 3.8% to 3.6% in November. Howell County has work force of 16,072 with 572 unemployed.

Taney County’s rate shrank from 3.6% to 3.3% in November. There are 1,364 unemployed in Taney County out of a labor force of 26,191.

Missouri’s rate decreased from 3.2% in October to 2.9% in November.
