Norfork girls among Tuesday’s state tournament winners

Two area high school basketball teams were on the south campus of North Arkansas College in Harrison on Tuesday for the opening night of the Class 1A State Tournament.
Norfork’s girls were able to advance to the quarterfinals after breezing past Alpena 55-27. The Lady Panthers will return to the Pioneer Pavilion on Friday to play the winner of Thursday’s game between Sacred Heart and Emerson.
Jasper ended up being one and done on the boys’ bracket. The Pirates suffered a 56-38 defeat at the hands of Marked Tree.

Both of Bergman’s teams were victorious on the first day of the Class 3A State Tournament at Elkins.
The Lady Panthers pounded Dover by a final of 58-35. Bergman moves on to the quarterfinals on Friday to face either Mountain View or Jessieville.
The Bergman boys also advanced to the round of eight with a 62-46 win over LISA Academy North. The Panthers will be back in Elkins on Friday to take on the winner of Wednesday’s game between Osceola and Lake Village Lakeside.

In Missouri, two area boys’ teams were at Logan-Rogersville High School for the opening round of the Class 4, District 11 Tournament.
Hollister was bounced from the tournament with a 44-30 loss to Clever. The Tigers end their season with a record of 4-22.
Ava took the first game of the evening as they squeaked by Reeds Spring 40-37. The Bears improve to 6-21, and they’ll play top-seeded Logan-Rogersville in Thursday’s semifinals.
