Cindy Wood Young has announced her candidacy for Marion County Quorum Court Justice of the Peace for District 3.
Born in Springfield, MO, Young has lived in Marion County since the age of five with roots in the county going back at least seven generations.
Young previously served one term on the Quorum Court in 2007-08, representing a different district based on where she lived at the time and did not run for re-election due to work commitments. Now retired, Young has worked a career in Human Resources in manufacturing environments and spent six years in Global Social Compliance for Capital Mercury Shirt Corporation, which offered her opportunities to travel internationally.
Young says, “While I’ll always be grateful for those opportunities and the wider perspective it gave me, it also instilled in me the belief that there really is no place like home. So while my roots and love for this area are deep, I also have seen enough of other parts of the world to understand we don’t operate in an isolated community, as well as nurturing a desire to protect and nurture the finer parts of our area.”
Some of the issues of concern to Young include government transparency, election integrity, availability of mental health resources and support for law enforcement. Young states she will work diligently to ensure law enforcement officers have the resources and tools they need to keep citizens and their property safe and protected.
She adds, “I was blessed to be raised by parents who recognized the importance of service to others and to our community. My father, Lyle Wood, served on the Quorum Court for many years, as well as being involved in numerous volunteer organizations. My mother, Georgia Keeter Wood, was a beloved and respected teacher, mostly in the Yellville-Summit and Flippin School Districts, giving countless young people a good start, most of that time as a first-grade teacher.”
Young is a graduate of Yellville-Summit High School and earned her Bachelor’s of Science in Education Degree at College of the Ozarks at Point Lookout, Mo. She currently volunteers with Hospice of the Ozarks, Twin Lakes Playhouse and Have a Heart Pet Shelter. She also served as President of the Business and Professional Women (BPW/USA), at the local, state and national levels, as well as Chairman of the BPW/USA Foundation Board of Trustees.
Young stated, “I am running as a Democrat, because, first of all, that’s who I am. But I also believe there is more that unites us than divides us and we need to work that way. I also believe our voters deserve choices, something we haven’t seen a lot of in recent elections. I look forward to visiting with many of you in the months ahead and hearing your thoughts and concerns.”
