The Arkansas Game & Fish Commission is buying the current building for $1,118,000 while the city is buying the new building at 650 South Street, which has housed two former banks and is currently being used by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, for $720,000.
Mountain Home Police Chief Eddie Griffin says there are multiple reasons for the move to the new building.

Listen:
Once the sale is complete, the city will start accepting bids for the renovation work. Chief Griffin says the money for the work has already been budgeted.
Listen:
During the renovation process, Arkansas Game and Fish Commission employees will be uprooted, which means space at the police department will be cramped for a while.
Listen:
The Mountain Home police chief believes the renovation of the building on South Street will also help the ongoing growth of the downtown area.
Listen:
Griffin says once construction begins on the new building, they expect it will be six to eight months before they will be able to move in.
