Local officials from the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission are among those preparing for the total solar eclipse. The agency has been planning for the last few months for the event coming up April 8.
Game and Fish officials have had multiple meetings with local, state and federal partners, including a few in Mountain Home. Captain Joe Williams of the north central office in Calico Rock says they’re expecting a big influx of visitors to the Twin Lakes Area.

In addition to the waterways, Captain Williams says Game and Fish will be paying attention to activities on land.

Several agencies and groups around the area have been preparing for the eclipse by offering extra campsites and parking for viewing. Williams says Game and Fish is not doing anything special on land with the exception of the Fred Berry Crooked Creek Nature Center in Yellville.

With the waterways expected to be as busy on April 8as the Independence Day holiday, Game and Fish is advising residents and visitors of safety regulations. They encourage everyone on a boat to have a life jacket, and children 12-and-under are required to wear them at all times. Those consuming alcohol are asked to drink responsibly and have a designated driver available.
