Area high school track athletes shine at Harrison, Quitman

Several area track athletes took part in the Goblin Relays Thursday at Harrison.
On the boys’ side, the host Goblins won the team title, Omaha took second place, Salem finished third, Flippin was seventh, Marshall ended up eighth, Yellville-Summit took 10th place, Cotter finished 11th, Harrison’s junior varsity team was 12th, Rural Special ended up 13th, and Bergman took 14th place. Individual wins came from Brooks Cheek of Cotter in the discus, Jackson Taylor of Salem in the 400-meter dash, Toby Campbell of Marshall in the shot put, Jaxon Ramsey of Harrison in the high jump, Noah Morris of Harrison in the 110-meter and 300-meter hurdles, Lucas Brumley of Harrison in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes, Trey Searle of Omaha in the long jump and triple jump and Jonathan McKinney of Omaha in the pole vault. In addition, Salem had a winning team in the 4×200-meter relay, and Harrison grabbed wins in the 4×800-meter and 4×100-meter relays.
The team victory on the girls’ side went to Kingston. Harrison finished second, Salem was fourth, Flippin ended up sixth, Rural Special took seventh place, Marshall finished ninth, Lead Hill was 10th, Ozark Mountain ended up 11th, Cotter took 12th place, and Valley Springs and Omaha finished tied for 13th place. Individual wins were captured by Heavenlea Nalley of Flippin in the discus; Marleigh Sellars of Salem in the 100-meter, 200-meter and 400-meter dashes; Rayleigh Turner of Rural Special in the high jump; Violet Gamez of Valley Springs in the shot put; Laiklyn Stephens of Harrison in the long jump and triple jump; and Allison Jackson of Harrison in the 800-meter run. The Lady Goblins also had wins in the 4×100-meter and 4×200-meter relays.

Several other athletes competed in the Quitman Relays.
The host Lady Bulldogs captured the win on the girls’ side. Yellville-Summit was second, Mountain View ended up third, Timbo took 11th place, and Izard County finished in a tie for 14th place. Individual wins came from Keirstin Moore of Yellville-Summit in the high jump, long jump, 100-meter hurdles and 400-meter dash; Emma Akins of Mountain View in the triple jump and 800-meter run; Ellie Akins of Mountain View in the 1600-meter and 3200-meter runs; and Kaitlyn McCarn of Mountain View in the 300-meter hurdles.
Quitman and Yellville-Summit were also first and second in the boys’ team standings. Timbo ended up tied for sixth place, Mountain View took eighth place, and Izard County finished 15th. Individual wins were by Kobyn Hubbard of Yellville-Summit in the long jump, Jesse Phennel of Izard County in the pole vault and Kaleb Patrick of Timbo in the high jump. Yellville-Summit also had the win in the 4×400-meter relay.
