On Tuesday, voters in Missouri took to the polls to cast their ballots in municipal elections.In Ozark County, voters approved a measure allowing the county to collect on internet sales the same 2% sales tax now collected on purchases made at brick-and-mortar businesses in Ozark County. The tax is set to be split three ways with 50% going to general revenue, 25% to law enforcement and 25% to road and bridge. The measure passed with 643 votes, or 56.8%, in favor and 489 votes, or 43.2%, against.
In the race for Gainesville R-V School Board, incumbents Jabet Wade and Mason Eslinger were the top two candidates with Wade receiving 442, or 31.5% of the votes and Eslinger receiving 439 or 31.29% of the votes. Both candidates will serve for three years on the Board of Education for Gainesville. Candidates Seth Miller received 277, or 19.74% of the votes and Nick Jones received 245, or 17.46% the of votes.
In the Bakersfield R-IV School District, incumbent Christopher Bales and Justin Turner have earned a seat on the Board of Education. Bales received 100, or 36.76%, of the votes and Turner received 103, or 37.87% the of votes. Candidate Andrea Russell received 69, or 25.37%, of the votes.
In Howell County, one incumbent school board member in the West Plains R-VII School District will keep his seat, but the board president has been voted out. Current board member Brian Mitchell had 171 votes for 37.9% of the tally, and he’ll be joined on the board by challenger Shealia Harper, who garnered 141 votes for 31.3%. Harper just beat out President Jimmy E. Thompson, who secured 139 votes for 30.8%.
