ALLEN PARK, Mich. (4/12/24) – Playing No. 1 Jacksonville State for a spot in the national championship match, the second-seeded Arkansas State women’s bowling team fell 2-0 in a mega-match at Thunderbowl Lanes.
A-State could not overcome a slow start in traditional play as Jacksonville State took the point 1,098-974. The Red Wolves had six opens within the first four frames and trailed by 103 pins after seven frames. Emma Stull paced A-State with a game of 223 while Brooklyn Buchanan rolled 213 pins. Saralyne Nassberg (195), Karli VanDuinen (184) and Faith Welch (159) also rolled in the traditional game. All five bowlers for Jacksonville State topped 200.
Trailing the mega-match 1-0, A-State took a six-pin advantage with a 213-207 edge in the first game of the 5-game Baker total pinfall. Jacksonville State answered with a 248-200 total in game two, but the Red Wolves responded with a 259-194 tally in game three to lead by 23 pins entering game four. Jacksonville State trimmed the A-State lead to 10 pins following a 206-193 tally game four and clinched the match with a 257-202 mark in game five.
A-State meets Youngstown State in an elimination match at 8 a.m. (CT) Saturday on NCAA.com. The winner advances to the national championship match against Jacksonville State at 8 p.m. (CT) Saturday on ESPNU. The elimination match follows the mega-match format while the national championship match is a single Baker best-of-seven series to decide the winner.
