A verbal confrontation over possession of a 1930 Ford vehicle quickly escalated into a physical fight that sent a Baxter County sheriff’s deputy to the hospital and a 25-year-old man to jail.

Deputies were called to a residence located along County Road 204 to deal with the problem.

They were told that a woman claiming ownership of the vintage vehicle had come to pick it up, but that the residents, including the man eventually arrested, Brandon Robinson, would not allow her to remove it.

Robinson appeared in Baxter County Circuit Court last Monday and pled not guilty to the charges against him. A request was made to lower his $10,000 bond, but Judge John Putman said, given the allegations in the case, he would not grant the request.

A male who had come to the residence to assist the woman claiming ownership to remove the vehicle from the County Road 204 address was allegedly kicked in the leg by Robinson.

Robinson is alleged to have told deputies on scene that he had no intention of giving up possession of the 1930 Ford and admitted that he kicked the male.

At that point, according to the probable cause affidavit, Robinson was told he was under arrest for battery.

Robinson, however, had other ideas. He said he “was not going to jail.” The deputy told Robinson that unless he submitted to arrest, a stun gun would be used on him. He is alleged to have countered that no one would use the stun gun on him.

Two deputies did use stun guns on Robinson but did not bring him under control. He was reported to have attempted to take the stun gun away from a female deputy. He was unsuccessful but managed to twist and turn the deputy’s hand to a point that the stun gun went off and probes hit the deputy.

The two deputies did get Robinson on the ground, but he continued to fight and kicked the female deputy in the head. The male deputy used a police baton to strike Robinson on the arms and he was finally brought under control by the deputies and two civilians on the scene.

At one point, Robinson’s mother was reported to have fallen to the ground and claimed she was “having an MS attack” and she was taken to Baxter Health by ambulance.

The woman who had come to get the vehicle produced a title proving ownership and removed it from the property.

Robinson is charged with 2nd degree battery on a police officer, 3rd degree battery, resisting arrest using force and obstructing governmental operations.
