Last week, the Hughes Police Department was deactivated. As a result, the department is now deemed inactive which the Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Training (CLEST) describes as a law enforcement agency that “existed and operated under state law or local ordinance in the past but that currently does not exist or has not operated for at least six months.”
CLEST officials said they made this decision after finding the department to be out of compliance with CLEST standards, but did not release which CLEST standards the Hughes Police Department did not follow.
The commission is set to meet on May 9th at the Arkansas Law Enforcement Training Academy to consider the situation and determine whether the department is ready to be restored.
