Lockeroom falls, MacLeod splits in Saturday tournament action

The Mountain Home Lockeroom American Legion baseball team wrapped up play in the College of the Ozarks Summer Showcase on a rough note Saturday in Forsyth. The Lockeroom suffered a 10-0 defeat at the hands of Springfield Kickapoo.
Charlie Bailey ended up as the losing pitcher. Finley Chafin led the Mountain Home offense by going 2-for-3 with a double.
The Lockeroom falls to 5-5 on the season, and they’ll return to Cooper Park on Monday to meet North Central Arkansas.

The Mountain Home MacLeod American Legion team had mixed results to finish pool play in the Sportsman Tournament at Lavaca.
MacLeod began the day with a 7-4 win over the Eight Battalion. Aiden Shrable was credited with the win as he pitched 6 1/3 innings, recorded eighth strikeouts and gave up no earned runs. Landon Newton got the save as he pitched the last 2/3 of the final inning, and he also provided offense with a hit and two RBIs. Will Rauls led the way as he provided two hits and scored a run, Eli Jones had a hit and an RBI, and Ford Coleman added a hit and scored a run.
Mountain Home’s junior squad did not fare as well in the later game as they lost to Forsgren 13-1. Owen Morris was the losing pitcher with one strikeout and six runs, and Colt Crownover gave up the other seven runs in two innings. Landon Newton led MacLeod with a hit and scored the team’s lone run.
Mountain Home will return to Hunts Park in Fort Smith for the semifinals of the Sportsman Tournament. MacLeod meets River Valley at 12:30.
