Local athletes earn medals in the Special Olympics Arkansas Summer Games

Seventeen local athletes traveled to Harding University in Searcy to compete in the Special Olympics Arkansas Summer Games. The event held May 23-25, brought together over 2,000 athletes and 500 coaches from across the state.

Certified coach Gary Smith and Breanne Swann, a paraprofessional at Mountain Home High School who coaches track and field, basketball skills and bowling, spoke with KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot News to discuss Special Olympics in the Twin Lakes area.

Mountain Home High School represented area 2.

– Nick Snyder earned silver medals in long jump and 200-meter

– Hannah Boyd earned a gold medal in 100-meter motorized wheelchair and a silver medal in tennis ball throw

– Taylor Albright won a gold medal in 200-meter and a bronze medal in standing long jump

– Branson Smith won a silver medal in standing long jump and placed 5th in 100-meter.

Norfork Panthers also represented area 2.

– Joe Rangel won a bronze medal in long jump

– Jacob Rangel earned silver medals in 100-meter walk and softball throw

– Toby Honeycutt placed 4th in long jump and earned a bronze medal in shot put

– Aden Ledford won gold medals in both long jump and 100-meter run

– Emily Moore earned a gold medal in softball throw and placed 4th in long jump

– Jamey Martin earned a gold medal in shot put and a silver medal in 50-meter run.
