Manila police arrested Gosnell Elementary School principal 53-year-old Tina Diane Godsey on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, careless and prohibited driving, running a stop sign and refusing to submit a chemical test on July 20th.According to the incident report, Officer Kaitlyn Inouye reported being stopped at the intersection of Lake and Beauchamp Streets around 11:30 p.m. Saturday, July 20, when Godsey approached, traveling at a “high rate of speed.” Inouye said Godsey skidded “a few feet into the intersection” and then flashed her high beams at Inouye.

“The vehicle quickly accelerated west down Highway 77, and I turned in behind it and initiated my blue lights as I did so,” Inouye stated. “The car did not slow down for several yards then seemed to notice me and slowed but did not stop.”

After Inouye was eventually able to perform a traffic stop, she noted that Godsey’s insurance information had expired and she noticed a “strong odor of intoxicant and noticed she swayed while reaching for her glove box” and that Godsey had watery, bloodshot eyes and slurred speech.

Godsey reportedly said she had been to Sonic but was going home because it was closed.

When asked how much she had to drink, Godsey reportedly initially denied having any intoxicants in her system until she admitted to having “one Straw-Ber-Rita” approximately one hour before being stopped.

Inouye stated that Godsey refused a field sobriety test and began begging to be let go.

“She stated multiple times what her job was and asked multiple times for me to just let her go home,” Inouye said. “All times she was reminded that her job did not give her the right to drive under the influence nor special treatment.”

Godsey was detained and booked into the detention center at 1:18 a.m. Sunday, July 21, and released at 8:51 a.m. with a July 23 court date.
