The Mountain Home High School football team picked up its second straight win in one of the Natural State’s oldest rivalries. The Bombers went to F.S. Garrison Stadium on Friday and defeated Harrison 30-14.

The game couldn’t have started much better for Mountain Home as one of the Goblins’ return men mishandled the opening kickoff, and the Bombers recovered the ball at the Harrison 15-yard line. Two plays later, Mountain Home struck first on a 10-yard touchdown run by Brantlee Phillips. It would be a while before any more points were put on the board, but with over two minutes left in the first half, Phillips saw Talan Palmer getting by his defender and connected with him for a 79-yard pass play to make it 14-0. The Bombers would get the ball back before halftime, and they were able to drive down to the Goblins’ 16 with three seconds left. Isaac Ballard came on and nailed a 33-yard field goal, allowing Mountain Home to go into the locker room with a 17-point advantage.

The Bombers padded their lead further with about 6 1/2 minutes left in the third quarter when Phillips came up big again with a 59-yard touchdown run. Harrison got on the board on the next drive on a one-yard run by Owen Strode with less than three minutes left in the period, and they added a two-point conversion on a completed pass from Peyton Reese to Tead Deakins. The Goblins added another one-yard touchdown run by Jaxon Ramsey with over nine minutes left in the game, but they would get no closer. Mountain Home scored one more time less than a minute later on a six-yard carry by Barrett Miller, and they went on to win by 16.

Harrison falls to 0-2 on the season. The Bombers improve to 2-0, and their next game will be Sept. 20 when they host their non-conference finale against Rolla, Mo.
