Now through October 31, youth readers can participate in the Youth Smokey Bear Reading Challenge at the Baxter County Library to celebrate Smokey Bear’s 80th birthday.

Participants can complete the challenge by reading three books on wildfire prevention or environmental topics to earn four activity badges. Those who complete the challenge will be entered into a drawing to win one of three Smokey Bear gift sets. Participants can register online at baxlib.beanstack.org or use the Beanstack app.

On September 11, Smokey Bear will visit the Library during Preschool Story Time from 9:30 until 11, with special giveaways. The event will be held in partnership with the Ozark-St. Francis National Forests, Sylamore Ranger District. Preschool Story Time is for ages 3-5 and is held at the Library every Wednesday from 9:30 until 11:00.
