On Monday, Mountain Home Public School Superintendent Allyson Dewey will host a “Drop In With Dewey” event at the Oakland Community Center at 5. Following the event, Dewey will speak during the Oakland Area Improvement Association public meeting at 6.
During this drop in event, Dewey will welcome school-related questions and concerns from local patrons. Dewey says, “Oakland and the surrounding communities are an important part of our district, and I always learn something new when I visit with people who live in those areas. I just think it’s important for me to hear concerns and ideas from all local constituents, and I hope that hosting some evening events like this will get productive conversations started.”
Accompanying Dewey will be Oakland native and school board president Lisa House. House is a longtime board member who grew up in Oakland and attended the community school there. House said she looks forward to seeing familiar faces and meeting new people as well. House says, “Oakland is just a really special place, and it obviously holds a lot of meaning for me, so I am looking forward to visiting with people that evening to learn more about their opinions and viewpoints related to our school system.”
Dewey said she is consistently impressed by the support the school’s students and staff receive from local patrons. “Everyone I encounter in our area seems to have one thing in common: they want what is best for kids. Are there differing opinions about what that means? Of course. But overall the care and concern for the future of our students is a shared value that makes our area special.”
Dewey intends to host several other drop-in events this year. Some will take place at the district office on Rodeo Drive, while others like the Oakland event, will be held in areas throughout the district. Each event will be publicized in advance.
