Things heated up last Thursday at a Saline County Republican Party meeting as an argument between two women escalated into a brawl between two men.

In a video recorded by a local activist at the event, two women had a disagreement during the question-and-answer portion of the Saline County GOP meeting. After the disagreement, one of the women walked away and was met by one of the men.

Another larger man in overalls began to follow the second woman as the dispute continued. He then approached the other man, who crouched down and abruptly punched the larger man.

The altercation was brief and bystanders pulled the two men apart and officers said the meeting disbanded peacefully after the altercation.

According to a local news website, MySaline, the man who threw the initial punch was identified as talk radio host Jimmie Cavin of Faulkner County who describes himself as a “professional bully fighter.” The larger man in overalls was alleged to be Jon Newcomb.

A man who frequently records the GOP meetings told MySaline that the punch was “followed by a wrestling match on the floor,” and said that Newcomb appears to be okay.

Members of the Republican Committee have since released statements rejecting the actions carried out by the individuals involved.

“What happened down at the Republican office there was wrong, it wasn’t right,” member Melvin Harris said.

Judge Matt Brumley expressed his discontent saying, “What I witnessed with my own eyes was pathetic, disgusting and embarrassing.” Judge Brumley added that the brawl was a poor representation, and the Saline County Republican Committee made it clear that the man who threw the first punch was not their member or a resident of Saline County.

“That person that was down there cutting up and acting out like that- they are showing kids that it’s okay to do this and it wasn’t a place for that. Period,” Harris said.
