Officials with the Highland School District canceled their Friday night football game following a serious crash Friday morning involving a student.

The crash happened at 7:17 Friday morning on U.S. Highway 63, almost five miles north of U.S. Highway 62 north of Hardy, according to the Arkansas Department of Transportation (ArDOT).

ArDOT, and officials from the Highland School District, report that the crash involved an 18-wheeler and student from the Highland School District.

“At this time, we have school personnel and counselors available to support our students and staff as needed throughout the day,” the district said in a statement. “We ask that you please keep our school family and this student’s family in your thoughts and prayers.”

In response to the crash, the Highland School District canceled their Friday night football game against Riverview. They also postponed their Hall of Fame induction ceremony, ACT testing, and the senior high volleyball team will not participate in the Cave City tournament on Saturday.

ArDOT reports that it took crews 3.5 hours to clear the scene of the accident.

A school district representative added that more information will be released at a later time.
