Local Sea Cadets look to add new youth recruits

A local Sea Cadet unit is looking for new recruits.

The Tomcatters Squadron has limited openings for youth ages 10-17. The U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps is a youth development program comprised of people interested in seamanship, the military, and other seagoing careers.

Tomcatters Squadron cadets train on the first Saturday of each month and wear the traditional Navy uniform after completing Recruit Training. Following training, they can also participate in a multitude of advanced training programs, including at-sea training with the Navy and Coast Guard, submarine orientation, SEAL training, search and rescue, and international exchanges.

Adult volunteers, with or without military experience, are also needed to help the Sea Cadet program grow. Those with seamanship, engineering, administrative, and fundraising skills are especially needed. Interested adults are encouraged to visit seacadets.org for more information.

To set an appointment, contact the squadron at dougmeurer03@gmail.com. For further information on the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps, go to seacadets.org.
