A man arrested after officers went to his home in Midway to conduct a compliance check and found weapons and ammunition appeared during a session of Baxter County Circuit Court last Monday.
As a convicted felon, 41-year-old Allen Lee Perkins is not allowed to be around weapons.
He was sentenced to six years probation on charges stemming from the compliance visit.
Perkins is also a registered sex offender. He was required to register after being convicted of first-degree sexual assault involving a 14-year-old female. He was reported to have been acquainted with the child’s mother.
His conviction came in mid-April 2016.
As officers were doing the compliance check on March 27, Perkins was asked if he had any weapons in his residence. He said he did not.
He later reported that he had a sword and a bow in a “safe” that was located in the master bedroom.
When one of the officers opened the safe, a box of .410 shotgun shells fell onto the floor. When the officer bent down to pick up the shells, he saw guns under the bed.
One of the weapons found was reported to have been stolen during a residential burglary in Randolph County in mid-October 1997.
Perkins told the officers the weapons were not his. He claimed they belonged to his 10-year-old son who lived with his mother in Georgia.
Perkins was charged with being a felon in possession of firearms, theft by receiving and failure to comply with sex registration and reporting requirements.
Perkins is classified as a moderate level sex offender – usually individuals in Level 2 have a limited or circumscribed prior history of sexually acting out.
