Two employees of a Salem business, Charles Owens and Cody Owens, have been arrested on separate charges related to missing funds from the business. Both have been released on bond from the Fulton County Jail.

According to the probable cause affidavits from the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, 55-year-old Charles Owens of Salem was arrested on a felony charge of fraudulent use of a credit card.

The owner of Tri-County Medical Supply told investigators Charles Owens had obtained three credit cards through the business that were not authorized and he had terminated his employment. He provided statements showing Owens had purchased a vehicle in January and used one of the credit cards to make part of the payment. The vehicle was only registered to Charles Owens and not the business.

The credit card was also used to pay the sales tax on the vehicle and insurance premium. The transactions totaled $3,325.

Twenty-nine-year-old Cody Owens of Batesville was arrested on a felony charge of theft of property.

According to the affidavit, between March and July of 2023, Cody Owens withdrew $4,610 in cash from the business account. The owner told investigators he was not authorized to withdraw the cash.

The business manager, Charles Owens, told investigators, he did not authorize Cody to withdraw cash and he did not know he was doing it.

The men are free on $5,000 bond each.
