Text scams from con artists claiming to be from the United States Postal Service (USPS) or the U.S. Customs Border Protection (CBP) are circulating. These scams often try to get victims to give personal information or money based on false information.

The USPS warns it will never send text messages regarding packages unless a customer has registered for tracking on a specific package. Official texts from USPS will never contain a link, and a link from a text claiming to be from USPS should not be clicked.

CBP text scams often involve fraudulent text claiming a package in the receiver’s name was stopped. The text will then request money to get the package released. BCP will never ask for personal information or money via text.

USPS recommends reporting scam texts to authorities. Fraudulent texts can be reported to USPS at spam@uspis.gov, the FTC at reportfraud.ftc.gov, or the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center at ic3.gov.
