Out of the five proposed ordinances read during the meeting, only two required a vote. The court unanimously appropriated fees and reimbursements totaling over $29,500 to the sheriff’s office budget. They also appropriated $190,000 from the additional motor fuel tax fund into the additional motor fuel tax budget.

The court had its second reading of an ordinance requiring county employees to accept their salary or wages by electronic transfer. Ordinances to change the name of animal control to animal control/shelter and to adopt revisions and additions to the Baxter County personnel and sheriff’s office policies had their first readings. Each of those three ordinances require three readings before the justices of the peace cast their votes.

The court also unanimously approved of resolutions for appointments to four fire department boards of commissioners. Rick Williamson, Jeff Dean and Roger Buresh were reappointed to the Mountain Home Rural Fire Protection District for three-year terms expiring October 2027. For the Henderson Volunteer Fire Department, James Presley was appointed, and Larry McCormick was re-appointed with both three-year terms also set to expire October 2027. John Vanderwerf will fill the unexpired term vacated by Ronnie Langston in the Norfork Fire Protection District through August 2026, and Angela Parnell, Terry Martin and Elliott Golmon will serve on its board for three-year terms expiring October 2027. For the Rodney Volunteer Fire Protection District, Julie Moody will finish the term vacated by Wayne Frazier through October of next year, and Carol Pior and Marc Monte were appointed to three-year terms set to expire October 2027.

Grant Greetham

Near the end of the meeting, Baxter County Office of Emergency Management Safety Coordinator Grant Greetham was recognized by Baxter County Judge Kevin Litty. Judge Litty recently attended a conference for the Association of Arkansas Counties, and its Workers Compensation Trust presented an award to Baxter County for its safety program efforts. Judge Litty presented the plaque to Greetham, who joined the office nearly a year ago.

Later, Baxter County and Circuit Clerk Canda Reese issued a reminder that candidates facing opposition in the general election for township, municipal and county offices will need to have their campaign contribution and expenditure reports ready to file near the end of the month. If a candidate receives or spends more than $500 during a campaign as of Oct. 26, a preelection report will be due three days later. All final reports, regardless of the amount received or spent, are due Dec. 30.

Judge Litty wrapped up the meeting by reminding the public of a change for next month’s session. Since the first Tuesday of November will be Election Day, the quorum court’s next regular session has been moved to Monday, Nov. 4.
