MH junior high cross country teams win Salem Invitational

Mountain Home’s junior high cross country teams were able to sweep the team titles in the Salem Invitational on Tuesday.

In the boys’ 2500-meter run, the Junior Bombers finished 30 points ahead of Sloan-Hendrix. Mountain View was third, Timbo ended up fourth, Salem took fifth place, Viola finished seventh, and Melbourne was eighth.

Individually, Mountain Home had four runners in the top 10. Oakley Recktenwald won the race in a time of 8:36.45, Finley Maxey ended up fourth, Ryan Cooper took seventh place, and Skylar Moore finished ninth. Among other area runners, Sawyer Hartman of Valley Springs was second, Nathan Shelton of Flippin ended up sixth, Timbo’s Gabriel Treadway took eighth place, and Case Southard of Norfork finished 10th.

In the girls’ 2500-meter run, the Junior Lady Bombers were 15 points ahead of the runners-up from Melbourne. Mountain View ended up third, Salem took sixth place, and Timbo finished seventh.

Mountain Home was led in the race by Callie Kohler as she crossed the line in seventh place in a time of 10:44.06, and teammate Samira Gassama was eighth. Erin Akins of Mountain View won the race in 9:36.35, and fellow Junior Lady Yellowjacket Evvi Cooper ended up second. Melbourne’s Aubrey Warner took fifth place.

On the high school level, Mountain Home’s junior varsity girls were led in the 5000-meter run by Trinity McGlone as she finished fourth in 23:07.11, and Pixie Bolick was 10th. Emma Akins of Mountain View won the race in 20:52.16. Emily Shelton of Flippin ended up fifth. Salem’s Hadley Reed, Natalie Burk and Tinsley Leslie finished seventh, eighth and ninth respectively. The Lady Greyhounds won the team title, and Melbourne took second place.

In the boys’ 5000-meter run, Sam Rodriguez led the J.V. Bombers as he was sixth in 19:12.29. Timbo’s Riley Callahan won the race in 18:05.74, Braydon Sumpter of Flippin ended up second, Mountain View’s Tyler Newton took third place, Dalton Shellstrom of Timbo finished fourth, Melbourne’s Dawson Cooper was fifth, fellow Bearkatz runner Shawn Wortham ended up eighth, Ladd Cook of Mountain View took ninth place, and Timbo’s Jaxon Wilkins finished 10th. Timbo won the team title, Mountain View was second, and Melbourne ended up third.
