The MHHS Athletic Hall of Honor’s Class of 2024 will include a 1990 graduate of Mountain Home High School. Leslie Easterling will receive her induction this Saturday to conclude homecoming week.
The former Leslie Frazier says when she got the news of her upcoming enshrinement, her initial reaction was surprise followed by a feeling of unworthiness.
Listen:
Easterling was a successful multi-sport athlete during her time as a Lady Bomber. She was an All-State player in basketball and volleyball. In track and field, she was second in the AAA state meet’s high jump in 1988 and later finished seventh in the state of champions in the same event. The very next year, she placed fifth in the state pentathlon.
During the 1988 and 1989 basketball seasons, Easterling helped lead the Mountain Home girls’ basketball team to a state runner-up finish, including a 32-3 record in ’89. She says being part of the team was one of the most enjoyable parts of being a student athlete.
Listen:
Easterling also gives credit to the coaches she was surrounded by as a Lady Bomber.
Listen:
Easterling would continue her basketball career on the collegiate level at Southern Methodist University in Dallas. During her time as a Lady Mustang, she averaged over eight points and nearly four rebounds per game and recorded 112 steals. Easterling was named SMU’s outstanding senior female athlete in 1994. She says one of the most memorable moments at SMU was when they beat Texas for the first time in history.
Listen:
Easterling was also an accomplished student in the classroom. She graduated from Mountain Home as a 1990 National Merit Scholar, and at SMU, her grade point average was 3.49.
Easterling will be inducted during the MHHS Athletic Hall of Honor Banquet on Saturday.
