In April, Brylie Speelman of Mountain Home was chosen as the recipient of the 2024 Baxter County 4-H Foundation $500 Scholarship.

Speelman was recently awarded the scholarship after she completed the first phase of the National American Registry of Midwives (NARM) Apprenticeship Program. Once Speelman finishes the four phase program and passes the final exam, she will be a Certified Professional Midwife.

Currently Speelman apprentices under several midwives locally and across the states and has three years left before she obtains her Masters in Professional Midwifery through Alegria Midwifery College in Mexico. The scholarship money will be going towards her tuition.

The 4-H Foundation encourages students to continue their education whether through college, trade school, or apprenticeships. The 2025 4-H Foundation $500 Scholarship application will be available around February 14th and must be returned by March 31st. The scholarship is open to any high school senior, homeschool senior, or college freshman.
