A Mountain Home man charged with attempting to set a fire at a fast-food restaurant appeared in Baxter County Court last Monday and entered a not guilty plea to the charges against him.

Forty-six-year-old Shane Eugene Carson is accused of first putting a piece of wood under the gas meter at the Wendy’s restaurant along U.S. Highway 62/412 and attempting to set the material on fire.

He was unsuccessful.

Carson is reported to have returned and placed more material under the meter which he did manage to set on fire.

An employee noticed the fire and put it out.

Both attempts were captured on video from security cameras at the restaurant.

There is no explanation in the probable cause affidavit as to a possible motive.

Carson is charged with two counts of criminal attempt to commit arson. He is an inmate in the Baxter County Detention Center with bond set at $25,000.
