The Atkinsons began their soccer coaching careers in 1999 with the Bomber boys’ team. They transitioned to the girls’ side the next year and coached for a few years before Debbie became the district’s director of special education. They returned to the sidelines in 2007, and their Lady Bomber teams won the state championship in 2009 and 2011 and finished as state runners-up on two other occasions. Debbie Atkinson says she and Max were blessed with incredible athletes during their time as coaches.

Max Atkinson worked for a long time at the Baxter County Farm Bureau and was also known for competing in professional bass fishing tournaments throughout the area and having Bass Cat Boats as his sponsor. He suffered a fatal accident while participating in a nighttime tournament on Norfork Lake in 2022. Debbie Atkinson soon retired from the district and has since served as the preschool director at Mountain Home Christian Academy.

Max and Debbie Atkinson will be enshrined during the MHHS Athletic Hall of Honor Banquet Saturday afternoon in the high school cafeteria. The meet and greet will begin at noon, and the meal will be served an hour later.
