Monday’s state tennis results include MH boys’ doubles team advancing to semifinals

Several area high school tennis athletes began state tournament action on Monday.

The Class 5A State Tournament got underway at Searcy High School.
Mountain Home’s Pierce Blackmon and Finley Chafin had a successful first day in the boys’ doubles bracket. Blackmon and Chafin began the day by beating Jace Faulkner and Michael Payton Zielstra of Sylvan Hills in straight sets, and they later won their quarterfinal match over Jude Humphry and Christian Grigg of Shiloh Christian in straight sets.
Four area athletes competed in the boys’ singles bracket. In the first round, Mountain Home’s Landon Horne beat Little Rock Christian’s Eli Long in straight sets, fellow Bomber Strat Rucker defeated Cruz Wilcox of Greenbrier in straight sets, Harrison’s Wyatt Mahoney topped Sanlin Malone of Hot Springs Lakeside in straight sets, Max Stoll of Harrison lost to Lakeside’s Barrett Tipton in straight sets. In the quarterfinals, Horne was eliminated by Nestor Carrero of Russellville in straight sets, Rucker fell to Tipton in straight sets, and Mahoney was bounced by Ethan Bacsa of Valley View in straight sets.
In the girls’ singles bracket, the season ended for Mountain Home’s Mary Charles McConnell as she fell to Isabella Altamirano of Lakeside in straight sets. Harrison’s Emelia Bell beat Ellie Kinzler of Little Rock Christian in straight sets, but she later fell to Bella Seeman of Valley View in straight sets.

Two area schools are being represented in the Class 2A State Tournament at Creekmore Park in Fort Smith.
Viola’s Taylor Richardson and Abby Hutson won their opener in the girls’ doubles bracket over Grace Dickinson and Brynn Morgan of Ozark Catholic in straight sets. Richardson and Hutson later lost their quarterfinal match to Brooklyn Berry and Malorie Booth of Riverside in straight sets.
Both of Viola’s athletes in the girls’ singles divisions were one and done. Piper Swindle fell to Eva Goodwin of Parkers Chapel in straight sets, and Meredith Deane lost to Meagan Richardson of Tuckerman.
In the first round of the boys’ singles bracket, Viola’s Aden Kiefer topped Kaleb Griffis of Hampton in three sets, and Jasper’s Canaan Hudson fell to Eli Roberts of Carlisle in straight sets. Kiefer later lost his quarterfinal match to Patrick O’Donohoe of Ozark Catholic.

Two other area schools were represented in the Class 3A State Tournament at the Conway Tennis Center.
Mountain View’s Adhi Andadaraj won his first round match in the boys’ singles division over Dyson Stewart of Baptist Prep in three sets, but he was later eliminated in the quarterfinals by Jackson Riendeau of Providence Academy in straight sets.
In the girls’ doubles bracket, Bergman’s Kiersten Lowry and Nealy Nuessner began by topping Emma and Anna Ferguson of Booneville in straight sets, but they later fell in the quarterfinals to Rachael Ballard and Mylee Walker of Cave City.
