Two of Mountain Home High Schools previous state championship girls’ soccer teams are going to be recognized once again this Saturday. The Lady Bomber squads from 2009 and 2011 will be among the newest inductees into the MHHS Athletic Hall of Honor.

Debbie Atkinson served as the head coach for both teams, and she says the athletes on those teams deserve the upcoming enshrinement.

In the 2009 state championship match, Mountain Home was leading Searcy 2-0 until the Lady Lions scored a fast-break goal with three minutes left. A second goal for Searcy was waved off due to an offsides call, and Atkinson called the remaining time the “longest three minutes of my life.”

The Lady Bombers finished with a record of 16-3-1 that season.

Two years later, Mountain Home was back in the state title match, but it wasn’t an easy road to get there. The team was dealing with injuries throughout the state tournament, including a pair of messed-up knees and a concussion. In addition, the Lady Bombers met a Russellville team with a lot of speed in the championship match, and Atkinson says they had to change their defense.
