Dr. Justin Lonon to receive Distinguished Alumnus Award from MH Education Foundation

Thursday will be the night the Mountain Home Education Foundation inducts its Hall of Honor Class of 2024, and this year’s Distinguished Alumnus award will go to the current chancellor of Dallas College in Texas. Dr. Justin Lonon will be enshrined during the foundation’s Night of Honors.

Dr. Lonon says he was surprised to be receiving the award, and it made him think back to his time at Mountain Home.

Dr. Lonon graduated from Mountain Home High School in 1991. He later went on to earn his bachelor’s degree at Southwest Missouri State University, currently known as Missouri State University, in Springfield. He began is graduate work at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock before transferring to the University of North Texas in Denton. Dr. Lonon says his stay in the Lone Star State was not expected.

Dr. Lonon became the chancellor of Dallas College in 2022, but he’s been with the institution since 2005. He says before education, he began his career in politics.

Dr. Lonon says while he wasn’t one of the top students in Mountain Home when it came to academics, he does give his teachers credit for preparing him for his adult life.

The Mountain Home Education Foundation’s Night of Honors is scheduled for Thursday evening at the Vada Sheid Community Development Center on the campus of Arkansas State University-Mountain Home. The reception starts at 5:30, and the dinner and program will begin a half hour later. For tickets, call 870-425-1201.
