The Howl-o-Ween Scary and Hairy Fest, hosted by Lucky Dawg Rescue and C12 Athletics, will be held Sunday afternoon from 1 to 5 on the campus of ASU-Mountain Home. The day will have two main events: a dog costume contest at 2 and a zombie run 5k starting at 3.

The dog costume contest will require a $20 donation in cash or a check written to Lucky Dawg Rescue Inc. to participate in. Prizes will be available for multiple categories, including cutest costume, scariest costume, funniest costume, and a dynamic duo category for pet owners who would like to dress up with their pets. The winners of each category will compete again for the Top Dog Grand Prize. Sweat Tea Photography will have a booth to take pictures for $10. Photos taken will be delivered before Halloween. Winners will receive gift certificates for various local businesses, including Rapp’s Barren Brewing and 201 Pet Salon.

Patty Markowski, owner of Lucky Dawg Rescue, says the last event they hosted saw three dogs get adopted. Have a Heart Shelter and the Humane Society of North Central Arkansas will also have pets available at the event.

The Zombie Run 5K will start at 3 and cost $35. During the event, runners will carry flags the zombies will attempt to take. The first person to cross the finish line with a flag will receive a three-month gift certificate to C12 Athletics. The first team to fully cross with at least one member still carrying a flag will receive a three-month gift certificate. For the safety of the runners, dogs will not be allowed to participate in the run.

Parking for the dog costume contest will be available to the right of the college entrance off Highway 62, and parking for the Zombie Run 5K will be available in front of Gotaas Hall. Dogs are required to be on a leash at all times.
